So it’s been almost two months since Kel or I posted anything here.  I’m often surprised when I check on the site meter and find that people still come here often because they’re referred by a search engine when looking up information on dog vomit fungus and Bush Goliath tomatoes.  Thanks, random people, for stopping by!  I wish we had more to entertain you with!

We don’t really have a lot going on these days, and I decided today that I want to try to make use of this site more regularly, so I’m gonna try to write more entries and post more photos.  Just to get you up to speed, here’s a quick list of the things we’ve done in the last few months:

  • I decided not to do any apartment gardening this summer.  Our apartment complex changed management companies, and in the last couple of months, they’ve been making changes to the buildings, like painting the patio and the outside of the apartments.  If I’d started gardening, it would’ve been hard to move four or more heavy, dirt- and rock-filled bins into our tiny storage closet for the week they were painting each respective area, and there’s no way I would’ve brought them all inside with all the bugs that get into the soil.  I’m bummed, because I wanted something to do this summer, but I think I would’ve regretted it if I’d had to lift all those bins.  I might still do a bin of basil and cilantro, because it does stay warm for longer down here in North Carolina, but I haven’t decided.
  • I had a tooth break on me, and I had to make a rush appointment to the dentist.  I’m not going to go into the details, because it’s a little embarrassing to talk about here, but it’s been a really long time since I’d seen a dentist.  When the tooth broke, I went to the nearest dental office that our insurance benefits would cover, and after I got in the chair and had my teeth looked at, they decided the broken tooth needed a root canal and crown, along with a whole boatload of other things, so I’m on my way to getting my mouth back in shape.  I’ll be getting the final crown in about two weeks, and then after that, I go in for two different segments of deep cleaning, also known as periodontal scaling.  You’d think that I’d be fearful of what’s to come, but I’m not.  My dentist and all of the office employees are all very kind and patient with me, and it’s not like I’m excited about having all this work done, but they’ve put me so much at ease that I’m definitely not dreading any of it.  It’s costing an arm and a leg, though, so that part, I’m totally hating.
  • Kel’s gotten himself into NASCAR this year.  We caught the end of the Daytona 500 a few months ago, totally by accident, and it was exciting, so ever since then, even though he’s not into cars at all, he’s been into car racing.  I have to admit, I’m kind of fascinated by it, too, and I do love watching high speed car crashes and hot men.  It’s so much better than football.  I want to take him to a race, but our car is in such crappy condition that I don’t think it would be a good idea to drive it far from home, and I’m pretty sure that if we rented a car, we wouldn’t be allowed to take it out of the state.  The race I want to take him to is in Martinsville, VA, which is just over the NC border.  I’m afraid the rental car will have some kind of Lojack tracker on it, though, so I don’t want to chance it by being dishonest.  Besides, we might want to save our money and spend a few days at the beach with my sister and her kids in August.  Eh, we’ll see.
  • Kel and I celebrated our eighth wedding anniversary last month!  Woo hoo!  And by celebrate, I mean texting each other “happy anniversary” and sitting around on the couch watching TV all night.  So pretty much it was just like any other day.
  • We got a slide whistle and a jaw harp to add to our collection of barely-used instruments.  So now we’re up to a warped acoustic guitar, an electric bass, a banjo, a keyboard, and the slide whistle and jaw harp.  I think there’s also a harmonica around here somewhere, too.

Well, I guess that just about gets you caught up.  I’ve been sitting here trying to think of anything else significant that we’ve done in the last two months, but aside from get drunk and watch TV, there hasn’t been anything of importance to mention.  I guess I’ll go ahead and post this, then I’ll work on tweaking this blog a little bit, and who knows, I might actually post something again later in the week.  Thanks for reading!

I think you can rent a car and take it out of state. You pay mileage on the rental so it doesn’t matter where you take it!

how did you go about getting your own domain name? I’ve been thinking of doing it for a while now, but have absolutely no clue where to start!

I’ll email you, Heather! Thanks for the tip on the car rental. I know before when we’ve rented them, they’re unlimited mileage as long as you stay in the state, but I didn’t know there were other options.
