I don’t really have anything fascinating to write about , so I’m just gonna pound out something totally pointless here just so I can stay in the habit of writing.

01. Right now, I’m listening to the sounds of a mouse on the verge of its death. We had been hearing a mouse in here for a couple months now, but each time I heard it, against my better judgment (and experience with mice), Kel convinced me that it was just plastic rattling around in a drawer that he used every day that’s packed with stuff, and I believed him, even though I knew that couldn’t possibly be what it was. Well, one morning, as I came out of the bedroom, I heard rattling around, and then I saw the actual mouse. It ran from under our stove, into the laundry room, and back again. I called the rental office as soon as they opened and asked that they send an exterminator out to take care of it. That was on January 29th. They didn’t take care of it, so I called back, called again, and called finally last week, after several weeks of picking mouse shit up from our kitchen, laundry room and pantry floors 2-3 times a week. Finally, this afternoon, I decided that I wasn’t gonna give them any more leeway and I wrote a letter to someone in the corporate office asking for them to talk to my management office to take care of it, and they sent someone by this afternoon to set bait and a glue board. That little fuzzy bastard is sitting under our stove as we speak (well, I type and you read), and later this evening, I guess, it should be meeting its demise somewhere in between our apartment walls. Woo hoo! See ya, sucker!

02. I just got a call from my niece, and she informed me that she was named the third best bass player in the state of West Virginia. She said she competed against students at WVU who were actually music majors, and she smoked ‘em! I’m so proud of her! She doesn’t really have much in the way of college plans, but I’m hoping she’ll get some music scholarships to a school nearby. She has her heart set on joining the Air Force, though, but she’s so short (4’10″), so she doesn’t think she’ll make the height requirement.

03. My nephew is staying with us Saturday night. My sister has to go do some business in Charlotte, so she asked if Eriq can stay here overnight. Hopefully we can do something fun outside of the apartment, but I don’t know what to expect weather-wise, so who knows.

04. I just finished the book Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. In case you’re curious, it was just okay. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t spellbinding, either. Next up is a book called The Adventures of Flash Jackson by William Kowalski. The Raleigh No Kidding! group is reading it for their book club, which is where I heard about it, but, lazy me, I still haven’t gotten around to getting active on the child-free boards there yet. Not that I’m a book club kind of gal anyway, but still, I definitely need to put myself out there to meet new people.

05. Maybe I’ll have a beer. It sounds good right now. All we have in the fridge is an assortment pack of Harpoon brand, and none of them were that good, but I’m kind of craving that wheaty, fizzy taste.

06. My right wrist is killing me. That can only mean one thing — I’ve spent too much time with a mouse (computer mouse, not that crappy kitchen mouse!) in my hand. I was wearing the wrist brace earlier today, but I took it off to eat dinner and never put it back on. Man, that data entry job I had for 3 years really killed my right hand.

07. My current favorite song is “Young Folks” by Peter, Bjorn and John. I think it’s pretty old (well, 2006 or so), but I only heard it for the first time in a store the other day and it made me smile, so I looked it up and put it on my mp3 player, then watched the video on YouTube (*gag*) a few times, and it’s been stuck in my head ever since.

08. Does anyone else read Bakerella‘s blog? I really love her creative cake pops and cupcakes. I wish I had the patience to make such cute things.

09. I chose Harpoon’s Winter Warmer beer. From the label: “Brewed since 1988, the flavor of cinnamon and nutmeg in Harpoon Winter Warmer make this full-bodied, rich ale a classic holiday treat.” It’s pretty good. It kind of tastes like drinking a Christmas tree. Maybe it’s because it tastes like a seasonal Starbucks drink. I can’t explain it. I wanted the Chocolate Stout, but apparently we drank all of those already.

10. I need to start planning my container garden for this summer. I decided I definitely won’t be doing tomatoes this year. We don’t get enough sun, and it’s always disappointing to grow something that you know isn’t going to be successful. I will probably do a pepper plant again — I’m trying to decide if I should go bell, or if I should stick with the spicy pepper area — and I’ll definitely do basil. Kel wants to grow more cilantro, and I have the seeds from a cotton plant that I picked last fall when we saw these pretty cotton plants while we were on our way to Topsail Island, so I think I’m gonna try to grow a cotton bush, just for the heck of it. Maybe I’ll give stevia a whirl, and I’d like to try a berry, but I don’t know. I’ve only got 5 containers to work with. But tomorrow, I have to flip through my container gardening book and really think this through so I can start sprouting my plants later this month. Yay! I love gardening, and I can’t wait until I have a yard of my own!

So, that’s it. At least I wrote. Goodnight, folks!
