So, a few weeks ago, Kel ordered a banjo from JCPenney. He’s been listening to the Avett Brothers and a couple of other new country-folk bands, and he’s really been interested in getting a banjo to pluck away at. He found one at Penney’s, which worked out well for us, because our finances suck and if it doesn’t come from QVC or Penney’s, we can’t really afford to buy it.

He got the email confirmation and it said that it wouldn’t be shipped until the 26th of the month, but, surprise, surprise, the UPS man showed up yesterday at 5:15 to drop off this huge package.

Kel was so excited when he got home. It was like he was a kid at Christmas, which, given the fact that we have our Christmas tree up and it is December, he pretty much was. He took out the banjo and all of the things that went along with it, and later last night, he started watching the training DVD that went along with it.

It was kind of fun hearing him play, so I decided that I’d try to learn it myself when he’s at work.

I like bluegrass music, although I won’t go and say I’m a dedicated fan. Everything I’ve heard, I’ve liked, and when I had a job and I listened to Yahoo Launchcast radio on the job, I had a lot of banjo and bluegrass music come up in the rotation. I wish I could’ve remembered some of the names of the bands that it played so I could put the songs on my mp3 player.

Anyway, today I took some photos of the banjo itself, and then of my fingers playing it. Here they are. It was a lot of fun, but I’m taking it slowly so I can master one technique before moving on to the next, that way I don’t get frustrated and give up too soon.

I tried to be artistic with the first couple photos, but it was too dark in here to get a really good shot, plus the apartment is kind of a mess, so I had to be careful how much of our slovenliness I revealed to you.

Anyway, we’re about to go to JCPenney to go return some pillowcases that I ordered too many of. I finally got a couple more sets to go with our fleece sheets, which I should say that I absolutely LOVE and encourage everyone to get a set of. At least if you’re a naked sleeper like myself. I would imagine if you’re a pajama-wearer, you might get frustrated with both the fabric of the sheets and the fabric of your pajamas sticking together.

I was thinking of going against every fiber of my being and maybe, just maybe, breaking down and buying a Snuggie. I have been wearing my thermal shirt and pants today and yesterday (as you can see in the last picture), but they’re not warm enough. I don’t know, though. Snuggies are so ridiculous. I might just try to find a long nightshirt that’ll go down past my calves. I guess I won’t really know til we get there.

After that, we’re gonna go to Sbarro for some pizza, and maybe split a spinach roll, and then we’ll zip over to the grocery store to pick up some wine for our weekly drinking night. Have a nice weekend, my friends, and stay warm! I don’t know about y’all, but it’s cold as crap here, and I refuse to turn on the heater just yet, since it’s gonna warm back up later this week. With electric heat, it just feels like it’s blowing cool air around anyway, so it’s not like it’ll make me feel warm anyway. Okay, I’m outta here. Bye!
